The top sailfishing teams in the country have competed since December 2014 in hopes of claiming the champion’s title and the highly coveted burgundy jacket in pursuit of the Quest for the Crest Sailfish Series. On April 15th, teams will travel to one of the premiere sailfishing destinations on the planet for their last chance to prove they have what it takes to earn this top title and their share of a purse that is expected to exceed $500,000.
Final Sail is the fourth leg of the Quest for the Crest Sailfish Series and will be the first 3-day tournament in the series. Team BAR South won the first leg of the series and nearly $160,000 in prize money at Operation Sailfish in West Palm Beach. Sailfish 400, the second leg, which was held in Miami, awarded DeBaitAble the first place title and a check for nearly $175,000. The winner of the third leg, Sailfish Challenge, a 3-inlet event, was Miss Annie with earnings of over $195,000. All three of these winning teams are at the top of the point standings in the chase for the jacket. BAR South currently sits at the top with 71 points, DeBaitAble trails closely behind with 67 points and Miss Annie follows with 58 points. The scoring format in the overall points race assigns a score based on where a team finishes in each tournament.
In addition to the jacket, the top captain of the series will also be recognized in a big way at Final Sail. Altier Jewelers of Boca Raton, the official jeweler of the Quest for the Crest, will present a Calibre de Cartier Diver rose gold watch, valued at $30,000 to the top captain in the series – a fitting award for an achievement of this magnitude.
Final Sail will be held at one of the most beautiful locations in all of Florida, The Westin Key West Resort and Marina. This prime spot boasts amazing ocean views with breathtaking sunsets, its own marina, several room and suite options AND it’s just steps away from the famous Duval Street!
Speaking of Duval Street, following the final day of fishing, all of the competing teams will strut their stuff and give their livers a run for their money at the Costa Crawl on Duval, sponsored by Costa Del Mar Sunglasses. Each team member joining the crawl will receive a hip pair of Costa sunglasses to sport for the crawl and a custom designed pub crawl shirt from Kluch Clothing, apparel sponsor for the series. The pub crawl will make its way through Duval Street, stopping at some of the hottest bars along the way, including Hog’s Breath Saloon, Irish Kevin’s and Smokin’ Tuna Saloon, to celebrate the victory of the top team at Final Sail and the champions of the Quest for the Crest. Smokin’ Tuna will close out the party on Saturday night with the presentation of the jackets and a live performance from the Andrew Morris Band.
Final Sail also offers an opportunity to give back by donating a portion of its proceeds to the Guy Harvey Ocean Foundation. The foundation funds scientific research and innovative educational programs to encourage conservation of marine wildlife. It also believes in supporting efforts to educate and engage our youth about our oceans and marine wildlife. Guy Harvey is also the featured artist of the Final Sail tournament.
