POMPANO BEACH, FL – The Mercury/SeaVee Pompano Beach Saltwater Showdown is the final stop and arguably the biggest event in the 3-leg Pompano Beach Saltwater Circuit. The tournament is set for August 4-7, 2016 with a kickoff party at the Pompano Beach Civic Center on Thursday the 4th, followed by the big competition day on the 6th and an awards ceremony with tremendous cash prizes and trophies. Top that off with a live drawing for a 29’ SeaVee boat at the conclusion of the awards and you got yourself a grand event!
For the first time in the history of the Pompano Beach Saltwater Circuit, the Saltwater Showdown has shifted to an ‘open’ event available to all fishing teams, regardless of whether they participated in one of the previous legs in the series. “We want to introduce as many people as we can to the excitement of tournament fishing,” said Jamie Bunn, executive director for the series. “It’s a benefit to our sponsors and all of the teams involved and it’s how we insure that our sport continues to thrive year after year.”
For a handful of teams competing in the 18th annual Showdown event, there is a lot at stake. The Showdown Crown presented by Simrad Electronics, recognizes the most dominant team in this highly competitive style of tournament fishing commonly referred to as ‘meat fishing’. Team Sailsmen currently sits in the driver’s seat with a narrow lead over team Pop a Top, Off the Wall and Strictly Fishing. Only one team can claim the elite Super Bowl-style champions rings and the #1 title. Who will it be? The conclusion to that story will play out on the grand weigh-in stage on Saturday, August 6th around 4pm at the Sands Harbor Resort & Marina located at 125 N Riverside Drive, Pompano Beach, 33062. The Showdown Crown rings won’t be the only prized possession handed out on August 7th at the Showdown awards ceremony. The highly anticipated drawing for a 29’ SeaVee valued at $132,000 takes place at the Showdown awards. The boat comes complete with twin 250HP Mercury Optimax engines, T-Top, leaning post, trim tabs and a Loadmaster Trailer. But, the boat is not built until the winner is chosen, giving them the ability to add options, choose their own color and build the boat exactly the way they want it. The drawing will be held at the Pompano Civic Center at approximately 4pm. Proceeds from the drawing support a number of charitable organizations including the Pompano Beach Kiwanis Club and the Children’s Tumor Foundation. For more information, visit www.winaseavee.com.
